Every two minutes, a mother dies during pregnancy or childbirth – and so do nine newborns. Too often these deaths are the result of failing systems: facilities without basics like trained staff, power, or essential medicines.

In Punjab, Pakistan, public facility birth rates surged from 61% in 2014 to 86% by 2024, adding an additional 350,000 deliveries at 24/7 centres every year by 2018 – a total volume surpassing even the UK’s NHS.
Health authorities in Sindh, Pakistan, expanded 24/7 maternity facilities and upgraded care, surging facility-based deliveries from 20% to 46% statewide.
Leaders in Sokoto State, Nigeria, quickly upgraded antenatal care, clinic infrastructure, and essential medicine stocks to secure safer deliveries for mothers.
